My successful Children's October Creative Writing Class

Wow, I have just run my first writing class, where I organised everything. Three children came along.

I started by playing a game, to create a character for their story. This is a game I remember playing as a child. A piece of paper is folded into three equal sections. The head is drawn on the top section the body on the the middle and the legs on the bottom section.

After the head and body have been drawn the paper is folded over, to hide the drawing and passed to the person to the left. Once the legs have been drawn it is time to reveal the character. There were a lot of giggles when everyone looked at their characters.

I asked them to fill in a 'Character Factsheet' next. This is a sheet where details of the character such as name, age and likes and dislikes are written down. This is to make the character what I call 3D.

Then it was time to write the story. I gave help when it was needed and enjoyed listening to them telling me all about their story ideas. Each child wrote a very different story.

They all went away happy. One girl, who had been very quiet when she came in, left with a beaming smile on her face, it was lovely to see.

I really enjoyed running this writing class and realised that I really love teaching.
