I wrote my story backwards!

'Try writing your story backwards and see what detail comes out.'

This was the suggestion of Iain McKinnon. He runs the Writing Stint, an online meeting where writers come together and write in their own homes. I love joining this meeting because it gives me dedicated writing time with other writers.

I decided to try writing my latest story for the Campsie Writers Group backwards. The story is about Gerald, a ghost who haunts houses, and is always left the haunting jobs no other ghost wants to do. He is very fed up with this and decides he needs to go on holiday.

I read my notes, I had written forwards, then started writing backwards.

Thinking of the events in a story backwards really gets the brain working. I had to stop and pause to accurately get the thoughts, feelings of Gerald and the other characters and the action taking place. Interesting detail popped onto the page.

What a fun experience!
