Serena's story - What's on the page of the book?

Hi everyone, Serena here.  I love writing stories using Claire’s activity sheets.  Here are my story ideas and my actual story.

My story ideas.

Yippee another activity sheet to look at.  I am so excited.

I can see an open book with an elephant on one page and a bicycle on the other page.

Now let me think.  I have an idea coming of an elephant called Suzie taking part in a bike race.  Oh yes I like this.  Suzie has just been given a new bike by her parents and is excited to be taking part in the race, this is her first time.

The winner of the race gets a trophy to keep for a year until the next race.  Ok I’m ready.

Here is my story.

Suzie waited nervously on the start line of the bike race.  She was really excited to be in the race and nervous all at the same time.  Nervous because this was her first bike race and because she didn’t want her new bike scratched or damaged in any way.

Her parents had just given her her bike to celebrate being old enough to take part in the race.  Suzie had just celebrated her 10th birthday, the minimum age to be allowed to enter the race.

Around her the other racers checked their bikes and readied themselves for the race.  They all looked very confident.  Suzie wondered if she had made the best decision to enter the race, it had been her choice.

She knew she could ride as well as any of the other riders but the thought of getting round the course scared her.

Her parents had promised to be waiting at the finish line and had told her they knew she could get round the course.  Her dad had promised to photograph her as she came across the finish line.  Suzie had to finish.

The elephant starting the race raised its trunk, paused then lowered it.  They were off!

Suzie peddled furiously; around her all the racers vied for the best position coming up to the first right hand bend.  She safely got round breathing a sigh of relief as everyone headed down the straight part of the race track.  Speed was essential.

Suzie peddled hard and found herself, much to her surprise, amongst the group of leaders.  She nearly stopped peddling in shock.  She had never expected to be here at this point in the race.

The crowds cheered all the racers as they cycled around the race course.  Suzie forgot to be nervous and concentrated on doing her best.  The racers in the leaders group were very fast.  Suzie actually managed to move up a few places.

She was almost by the two front racers when the finish line came into sight.  She cycled as hard as she could but the two leaders were just too fast.  They pulled away from her crossing the finishing line together.  Suzie quickly followed.

Her dad showed her the photograph he had taken when they got home.  Suzie was secretly pleased she had come in behind the leaders; the photograph showed her crossing the finishing line with no one else around her.  She could pretend she had won and practise hard for next year’s race when perhaps she would win

I hope you liked my story.  I’d love to know what you think.  Please contact me using the Contact page on Claire’s website.  More activity sheets can be found on my page, called Serena, on Claire’s website.
