What an amazing experience – I was a Super Judge!
A friend at my singing group, SINGaLOUD, suggested I apply to be a judge for the Radio 2 children’s story writing competition called 500 words.
I was very excited when I received the email telling me I was accepted as a judge.
There were 5 headings I had to consider when marking the stories – plot, language, characterisation, enjoyment and originality. Each score was from 1 the lowest to 10 the highest.
I wasn’t sure how I would know what was a high score and what was a lower score in each of the headings. It was exciting reading through all the stories. It became clear how to score each heading.
The range of story ideas was fantastic and so varied. It was a privilege to have the opportunity to get a glimpse into the children’s imaginations. I loved reading every story.
After I submitted the scores, I received the information that I would be entered into a draw to win tickets to the final where the winners are announced. Amazing!
Then I received an email asking if I wanted to become a Super Judge and mark some more stories. I was delighted to mark one more story.
I loved the whole experience and can’t wait to hear who the winners are.
I have put a note into my diary to apply next year to be a judge, again. This time I will make time to mark more stories.
