Do your characters take over your writing?
I am steadily working through the stages of writing my novel and have found myself having to stop and re-write the events that have to happen between now and the end.
I have had a look through all my notes and am now happy that I know what comes when and who is saying and doing what.
Sometimes it is good to stop writing and take stock of where you are in your writing. I have found this especially helpful, as my characters keep going off and doing their own thing! I am continually surprised by what happens.
